War of 1812 question?

In 1813, the Americans captured Mobile, Alabama from the Spanish. They then used this as a base before losing it to the British, who abandoned it when the war ended.

Does this mean that the Spanish were involved in the war in some capacity? Or is that to be viewed as part of a separate conflict?

The main goal for the Americans during the war of 1812 was land acquisition, they used impressment of sailor and the arming of natives in America as their reasons but they just wanted more land. Their attacks into Canada are examples of them trying to get more land. They knew that the Spanish had little ability to protect their possessions in America so it was easy to take that area over.
