I'm in a tight spot, little help?

Like the title says, I need a little help. I'm looking into enlisting in the air force mainly to be able to go to school with no problems when I got out. This was before I found out about the air force ROTC scholarship.

So I have a few questions...

I'm 20 years old and above average smart (so I like to think). I had a 3.0 gpa in HS (because I was a smart *** that slept in class) and a little above average SAT scores. I enrolled in a collage but dropped out before the first semester because I was put into crap class (my fault). Knowing this, how difficult would it be for me to be accepted into the ROTC program for the air force? I want to get a degree in physics, if anyone was wondering.

I'm going to join the air force regardless if I'm accepted with the scholarship. I'd just like someone's input.

Also, when would be the earliest I could enroll in a school if I happen to get the scholarship (say I applied now), because if I have to wait around another year, I'd rather just enlist.

Update:

Yup, and I applied at last minute to avoid waiting around for a year = crap classes I choose simply to fill in space, which I instantly regretted. I dropped out and got 2 jobs. Cleared that up for you?

The best chance of getting an Afrotc Scholarship with a 3.0 GPA, the minimum required to even apply and average Sat scores is at an HBCU(Historically Black College/University) or HHE(High Hispanic Enrollment) school. Afrotc was awarding scholarships on a fully qualified basis at MSI(Minority Serving Institutions.) Not sure if that is still the case as the information was removed from the Afrotc website over a year ago. Fully funded basis means no scholarship board, anyone who meets the minimum requirements receives the scholarship. Going into the Air Force now is going to delay getting a college degree and the time served isn't really going to help with experience for the types of jobs a college graduate with a Physics degree will be seeking. A better plan might be to enroll in a community college that has Afrotc available at a cross town university. If financing college is the issue, take a half schedule for the next four years at a community college and complete the Afrotc Basic Course. At 24, you will be on independent status under Fafsa guidelines and parents assets and income are not counted for purposes of financial aid awards, so you will have access to enough grant type financial aid to finance a college education. If you still want to continue with Afrotc and earn an Enrollment allocation for the POC then do so or just go on to a 4 year university and finish a degree in two years. College degree at 26. Go on to grad school or serve in the Air Force as an officer for a minimum of three years. If an officer was not on Afrotc Scholarship, he earns full 9/11 GI Bill Benefits that can help finance a Graduate or Professional degree.

The alternative is to enlist, wait up to a year in the DEP, then serve four years and get out with no college at age 25, then go to college for four years to earn a degree.

So, at age 29, a BA degree and Air Force enlisted experience or a BA degree and Air Force Officer experience while earning far more pay as an Officer.

O-1 to O-2 in 24 months. O-2 to O-3 in another 24 months. All Officers are entitled to BAH(tax free housing allowance, varies widely with location.) Single enlisted Airmen ranking below E-4 are not entitled to BAH and live in the barracks.

"I enrolled in a collage but dropped out before the first semester because I was put into crap class"

When I went to college...for all 3 degrees..I took multiple classes per semester...and I chose what classes I took...

Unless you have at least a 3.7 high school GPA, with very high SAT/ACT scores and a good smattering of AP classes, volunteer work, varsity sports and leadership experience you stand little chance of ever getting a ROTC Scholarship.
