I've played a lot of rugby for some good teams and my honest opinion on wrist tape is that it does nothing to prevent injuries. The guys I have played with that strap their wrists do it because they are a bit nervous and just do it to give them something to do while in the changing room before a game. I know this sounds nuts but it is a genuine reason why some of the guys I've played with strap their wrists.

Wrist tape helps keep your arm tight so you get the swing you are looking for.

But the most they are used for is to protect from a wrist injury (which can take you out of the game for a long time before your wrist can heal)

People do use it to keep their wrists in place usually.

By the looks of it though, most people today use it for looks more than anything.

I do it for all of my high school games, and I personally do it just for looks. I don't notice a difference between wearing it and not other than appearance.
