This is for you atheist, IF THERE IS NO GOD, THEN WHY DO YOU FEEL THE NEED TO BE AN ATHEIST?

I mean if there is no God. Then why do you need to be an atheist , and not just an unbeliever?

When the word atheist, is just a name you put to your belief. Here another question for you. If atheism is true ,then do you put your faith in this belief? That if it its true?

I don't feel a "need" to be an atheist, I just am.

To most Christians "unbeliever" means anyone other than a Christian. The two terms "unbeliever" and "atheist" do not have the same meaning. An atheist doesn't believe in any deity, not just the Christian one.

Many people around the world believe in a god or gods. Some advertise their religion by wearing a hijab, or turban, or a cross for example. Although there are certain atheist and humanist symbols, which could be worn as a pendant or tie clip, many atheists don't wear any symbol. They don't feel the need to advertise their atheism.

The word atheism comes from the Greek 'theism' meaning belief in god(s) and the prefix 'a' means without. It's a very old word. The word came in to being because a word was needed because not everyone believed in gods.

It's not that I feel the need to be an atheist. I am an atheist.

The word unbeliever is too general, I just don't believe in any God (or gods) so I prefer to use the term atheist, because it is more correct and concise. I definitely believe lots of other things. I believe that the Earth will continue to turn on it's axis and that morning will follow night. I believe my family and friends care about me. I believe in honor, and justice, and truth, and love, and freedom and various other abstract concepts. I have simply never encountered any evidence to support the claim that any God, of any faith, is actual or really exists and consequently I have never believed as you do.

Now that I have answered your question, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind explaining why trolls like yourself insist atheism is a belief when it is not?

The word belief means to accept something as true without any evidence. Since that is exactly the opposite of being atheist, I am curious whether you say this because of a religious doctrine that prevents you from using the accepted meaning of words; or is it because you just fail at English?

Atheists are just "unbelievers". Atheism is a name not to a belief, but disbelief. We don't generally call ourselves "unbelievers" because we don't think there is something we are "unbelieving" in. Also, "unbelievers" is generally used as a derogatory term. There are plenty of terms that groups have thrown off due to negative conotations. It is just the latin based name, like "believers" are called theists or deists.

I have no faith except in people. I do not have faith that there are or are not gods. I am willing to see evidence you have or evidence people have that there are no gods. In the absence of proof, we go with our gut just like everyone else. My gut says there are no gods. I doubt we will ever have proof either way. The existence or non-existence will only be true when it can be proven. If it is, I won't believe either way, I will know the truth. I don't believe that 1+1=2, I know it.

Please don't use caps, it's like yelling at us. What was the question in "That if it its true?" I have no idea what that meant.

Labels suck. Whatever people believe in that is their choice and everything is good. It sucks when people go around bashing each others beliefs, views and opinions as if their's has been proved. There is no proof of god and no proof that there is no god so people should calm down.

At the end of the day however, scientifically every motion needs a mover, therefore there is a creator or stronger force that started this world up.

There's no lies, just the unknown and believers and non believers both push and pull each other, for what reason? Both are wrong anyway because there is no proof, so just live and stop hurting each other through beliefs that no on can prove.

I am an atheist because I DON'T feel the need to have a childish wish fulfillment fantasy. It is a definitional thing. I am an atheist, not because of a need, but because of a lack of need.

[If atheism is true ,then do you put your faith in this belief?] That is actually a fair question - but stated incorrectly. I live my life as though atheism is true. That is the most direct, unequivocal answer I am able to give you.

Anti atheism is doing so much damage to Christianity that it is in reality anti Christianity – David Manley

It takes in reality only one to make a quarrel. It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, while the wolf remains of a different opinion. - William Ralph Inge.

Why so blind to what causes the backlash against christianity?

ALL the other religions and atheists live in peace and are ONLY attacked by BAD christians which causes all GOOD christians to despair at the damage they do!

Up until about 40 years back Christianity was thriving and there was no conflict with others but in just those few short years the modern christians have become intolerant, hate filled, bigoted and persecuting resulting in a growing backlash against christianity and causing christianity to loose over ten percent in less than a decade with the loss accelerating!

The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only thing that can stop it is to abandon the terrible human emotions, seek to rediscover the idea of a loving god and act like it!

Atheist is the word meaning the opposite of theist no deity is required to have people take opposing sides to the idea that one exists.. Why the aversion to people using the word atheist to describe themselves as opposed to the idea that a deity exists?

Unbeliever isn't very descriptive.. Unbeliever in what? Rainbows, Thor, pixies, monogomous relationships... The word unbeliever could describe someone who doesn't believe in any number of things while atheist describes someone who doesn't believe in a deity<s>... Atheist is a much more appropriate word as it describes an exact belief without confusion..

No faith required.. One need only follow the trail of evidence <or lack there of> to come to the conclusion no deity exists..

what a strange question, you clearly don't know how to use a dictionary. the letter a before a word means non by calling myself an atheist it is just an educated way of saying non-theist or non believer.

atheism (if you owned a dictionary you would know this) is lack of belief in a god. faith is not required to lack belief, faith is only required to believe in something (especially something for which no evidence exists such as god/s).

You really need to look up the word atheism in the dictionary and try not to twist the meaning of the word because it is the fact. I was born without the knowledge of god an atheist and I live my life this way. Even there is a god he cannot prove me wrong.

    atheist

What? Atheist is the word that means "someone who does not believe in gods or a god" so anyone who is, as you call them, an unbeliever in any gods, is by definition an atheist. There is no "need" to be an atheist. If you do not believe in absurd fairy tales, you are an atheist.

Your questions get more illogical as you go on. If it is true that I do not believe in gods, do I put faith in my not believing in gods? That does not make sense.

Try to think of it this way, you do not have wings. Do you have to have faith that you do not have wings? I do not believe in gods, yours or anyone else's. I do not need faith to not believe in your gods. I lack faith, by definition, in any gods. Does that help you to understand?
