Do Jews and Muslims say prayers for an individual in need?
Many Christians say "I will pray for you," (when a friend is ill for example). But in other religions, are the prayers mostly preset , or pre-ordained ?
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality2 days agoWhat do you think of taking metformin to prevent cancer?
Metformin has been used for a long time for diabetes. It has been studied for some years now as a cancer (prevention) treatment, but articles I'm reading are saying it's too soon to be certain.
5 AnswersOther - General Health Care3 years agoHow should I cook these dumplings? Simmer in broth?
We received an amazing gift from a local deli (Montreal) but no instructions. There are cold cuts, salads, bread, AND TWO containers of chicken broth and TWO containers of DUMPLINGS. (Very soft doughy balls). So heat the broth in a saucepan? Add dumplings and simmer??? How long should they simmer?

The huge hologram that we see of the Sith Lord, that could be something that Skywalker uses to frighten people?
7 AnswersMovies5 years agoCan we agree that modern Santa is not a Christian character?
There are stories of a Christian saint around 300 CE, but modern Santa, shopping mall Santa, has nothing to do with Christianity - right?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality5 years agoIf someone is near death in hospital, perhaps after a car crash, is there any point in praying for that life to be saved?
Wasn't the crash part of some god's plan? Hasn't that god already decided the person's fate?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality6 years ago'Why do so many women put so much effort and money in to feminine 'beauty'?
How have we become so brainwashed about body hair?
All those skin treatments and the hair removal and eyebrow shaping and eye shadow and other cosmetics, and hair colour and conditioners and manicures and pedicures. Why, why, why? Women could give money and time instead to their church or to a Humanist organization!
If you're religious, then accept that gods gave you body hair, OK? If you're atheist can't you see that the body hair evolved so it's not a bad thing?

Or perhaps he was (is) an alcoholic and his brain never recovered? It really seems like the girlfriend set him up. He seems s bit out of it.

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality7 years agoSome people are now using the words hijabi and niqabi? So in the plural can we say hijabis?
So it seems to be more common in English now to use the word hijabi to refer to a woman wearing a hijab, and niqabi to describe a woman wearing a face veil. So can we just use English convention to pluralise these words? So, 'niqabis'? and 'hijabis'?
3 AnswersLanguages7 years agoIn English, we now have the words hijabi and niqabi? So in the plural can we say hijabis?
Can we say niqabis? I would like to know, instead of saying, "When I walk through the local mall, I see several ladies wearing hijab" can I say instead "I see several hijabis"?
Thank you.
7 AnswersRamadan7 years agoIs it wrong for Muslims to sing in a choir, or play instruments?
Yesterday, our local news channel took their cameras to an elementary school, and they filmed the school choir, and two of the singers were wearing hijab.
Also, you can't watch TV without encountering music! TV shows have their theme music at the beginning and end, and most commercials have music!
1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality8 years agoSo, what are the great religions of the world?
Now that things have settled down after the anti-Islamic video, I'd like to know what people think about 'greater' and 'lesser' religions. Personally, I think categorizing religions is a ridiculous idea, but Clinton had to say something like that to try and put out the flames.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoWhat can we do about our noisy Air Conditioner? Can we build a shelter over it?
We have an AC unit on our balcony on the 2nd floor. This was just put there last July (11 months ago). The people before us had this old water cooled AC system which was apparently never meant to be used in individual homes.
The upstairs neighbour has his bedroom right above the AC unit, and there's no 3rd floor balcony there. He can't sleep due to the noise. The downstairs neighbour doesn't want us to move our AC down to grass level. So can we build a shelter over our AC unit and who would we get to do that sort of thing? (It's probably against condo rules, but I'd like to look into various possibilities).

5 AnswersOther - Home & Garden9 years agoSo, good Christians, should you change your cable provider to save money?
Actually I'd like to hear from people of all philosophies. If you change your cable provider, or internet provider, to save money, that's very wrong, isn't it? So I have Videotron cable, and Bell offers a special deal, but switching would be wrong? You see people who work for Videotron could get laid off, if many people switch. Bell might offer a few of them jobs, at much lower salaries.
We shouldn't think only of ourselves. And in the long term, do we want one big company running everything? I don't think so. What do you think?
