To many, Buddhism goes beyond religion and is more of a philosophy or 'way of life'. It is a philosophy because philosophy 'means love of wisdom' and the Buddhist path can be summed up as:

    (1) to lead a moral life,

    (2) to be mindful and aware of thoughts and actions, and

    (3) to develop wisdom and understanding.

I personally think a religion is where a group of people devote their lives to a higher power, like a god.

The Buddha never called himself God, so I think that Buddhism is a philosophy rather than a religion. Nonetheless, it's a lifestyle.

Sometimes, it depends on the person. Normally it is just a practice/way of life like you said.

It's more of a philosophy on life, it has no gods and no stories on the universe's creation, just guidelines on how to live happily.
