Free Blacks in the North and the South...?

1.had no sympathy for slaves.

2.were essentially equal to Whites.

3.generally opposed slavery.

4.had political rights but struggled against economic deprivation.

    I would have to go with 3 on that. While a free slaved technically had the rights of a white man it wasen't always the case in every state. After the Dread Scott case the southern states could go up north looking for an escape black slave, and if they pick up someone who legitmatley free they could enslave them. It was one of the things that divided the US into the civil war.
