The creation museum in Kentucky extremely bothers me...?

Does anyone else not see a huge problem with this ridiculousness? It's embarrassing to America. I think this museums existence has a direct impact on the horrendous science scores our students receive compared to the rest of the world. There were over 1 million visitors to the museum within the first 3 years it was open. It's not like people aren't showing up. We have progressed so far as a society, yet America is starting to fade behind. I think it is because we are such a religious country. I just can't understand how people can be brainwashed by this crap. The very little we can prove and understand about our existence can completely destroy anything that any religion has ever taught. I know not all Christians believe in creationism, but still call themselves christian. How is that even possible?....I'm starting to ramble, but I was just curious about peoples thoughts on the subject. Christian and non-christian alike. The subject has been on my mind for a while. I can't seem to find anyone to have an intelligent conversation with.....I'm obviously an Atheist, I'm not questioning my Christian faith or anything. I shouldn't have to feel proud to be a free-thinker in America, but I am. I still do love my country though.

Update:

Capeula- I think it's fair to say that this is one of the most religious countries in the western world. If not the most.

Update 2:

Johnathan- Atheism isn't about having beliefs. It's about facts.

Update 3:

Meph- when did I ever say I have christian faith. I meant that I'm not questioning faith, I have my mind made up on the subject. My point was to make it clear that I'm not asking this to question my faith.

The ONLY reason that America hasn't fallen behind is because of the H1B Visa - the brain magnet. Did you know that 40% of science PhDs are foreign born or that 75% of Silicon Valley workers are either foreign or a minority? Without these highly educated specialists, the WHOLE industries yet support would collapse overnight. The problem for America is that countries like India and China now have brilliant universities and their own companies; these people no longer need to come to America to find work.

I saw a survey the other day that stated that 60% of Americans still thought the world was 6,000 years old. No wonder America has by far the worst science literacy of ANY developed country - it's the most religious by a LONG way. I'm not American, I'm British which in some ways probably gives me a better idea of the problem as I haven't been indoctrinated by the system. Here are the main problems in my opinion:

Schools not teaching evolution or putting "this is only a theory, it is not fact" in science books

Saying that "one nation under God" crap in schools as children will look up to their teachers and authority: if they are this religious, then the children will follow suit.

The media: I used to watch those American talent shows, but I gave up after the judges would say "you were blessed by God" or some crap and the crowd would literally go crazy. Don't even get me started on Fox News...I'm not claiming British news is perfect, in fact the phone hacking scandal ha been in court for the past few years, but in Britain Fox News wouldn't been allowed on air - it breeds ignorance and is pure indoctrination

Blind patriotism: 94% of Americans would support a war in Krygyzstan if the president said it was a "threat" when only 6% had heard of the country and 2% could name it on a map. I know this is a generalisation, but America is by far the most patriotic nation in the world, I would say 95% are so blind they have no idea how disgraceful America's foreign policy is and how they are arguably the real terrorists.

Oh well, that's the key to a successful society: ignorance and indoctrination. The government have complete control over the people and they people will support the government without even questioning their actions.

The creation museum in Kentucky does not bother me, I think it is just a laugh and shows what BS it all is. Mind you, it does make the USA the joke of the world.

I do not know why some Christians do all this stuff about Creationism, they cannot believe it, no sane person could.

I am trying to figure out where you are coming from, as you say -

"I'm obviously an Atheist, I'm not questioning my Christian faith or anything"

To be a Christian, one must BELIEVE the Bible totally - something you do not do.

Because if you did you would be promoting the museum not decrying it.

I would dearly love to visit an establishment such as this,

but that is impossible as there is no way I can even visit the USA.

You have christian faith but you're an atheist? hmmmm..

Religion will keep the USA in the dark ages and while China, Korea and other eastern countries grow in power to take over the world the USA will still be arguing over wether the internet is the devil's work. Grow up America or sink into religous oblivion.

Atheists really seem to hate this place. I must go and see it. It must be a good Christian witness if it is hated so much.

Funny how all you God haters don't give examples of why you dislike the museum so much.

    Maybe the truth hurts.
