In the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom...?

Why did he start calling the kid "short round"?

Update:

Thanks for both of you guys helping me out, but my main question is how did it become his nickname?

Probably has to do with the .22 caliber round. It comes in various types. The .22 "long rifle" (LR) is the most common and is used to hunt varmints for the last 100 years.

There is a "short" round which is much more quiet, doesn't have as much range and is more often used in pistols than rifles.

my guess is because he was "short" and knew his way "around".

or he was named after a cut of beef.
