The arts and humanities are VERY much cheaper to teach - and should therefore be very much cheaper to learn. In reality, the sciences are very highly subsidised in universities by the arts.
You can also argue that it is getting more important for people to have educations in the arts and humanities, not less so. Notice the word 'education' - as opposed to training. The two are qquite different, although many educators and students confuse them. Much of what goes on in science faculties is actually training - for careers which, thanks to the rapid changes of technology in our world, may no exist for very much longer. However, a proper education teaches students to think, to be good at it, and to enjoy the process. That will always be valuable.
By the way, my own degree is in pure physics.

Your logic is reasonable. However, the goal in nearly all endevors in this system is to make money. Making money is what our sysyem is based on. Therefore, to diversify educational pursuits would logically be an educational institutions goal.
