Can I pre-weigh my luggage at the airport?

Can I have them weigh my luggage before I check it in?

Or are there any stations where you can weigh your luggage? I know they have little boxes to put your luggage in so you can see if it's small enough (length/width/height-wise)

I tried to do it at home, weighing myself and then myself with the bag, but our scale only goes up to 140 (it is a child's scale). And it is too wide to simply lay it on the scale--it will block reading.

Simple answer - No. I solved that problem years ago and bought a digital luggage scale, which I also take with me on trips to check the coming-back-home weight after buying stuff while on vac. Below is a link to a picture of the one I have, but there are many more on the market - you can buy one pretty well everywhere luggage is sold.
