Why shouldn't those who choose "no health coverage" be penalized?
First, the right-wingers rejected the idea of a competitive low cost "public option" because they said it was "socialism". Then they complain when insurance is too expensive to buy. When people can't or don't buy health insurance, they go to the emergency room and get treated at my expense (a taxpayer). Why is it so outrageous about a penalty or tax to defray these costs those people put on the government?
Shoredude- I agree with your first point and think that those with children should have to pay more (not less) in taxes for education costs. Regarding your second point, the fact is, that those without insurance put a burden on the system and that burden should be distributed among those who choose not to be covered. Otherwise, we could just seize the property of those who opt out and get sick later.

Using your argument that people who put a burden on the government should be penalized, then those who have children, who are educated at taxpayer expense, should be penalized.
And not everyone with no health insurance goes to the emergency room and is treated at your expense.

That's the Thing about Choices.....no one is held accountable for their choices nowadays....and that is a LIBERAL Ideal.
If a person "chooses" not to have insurance, and must see a Doctor, why is it such a FAR Stretch to DEMAND they pay for the Service?
No, we don't require people to make Retribution for the Services they Receive.
If you go to an Emergency Room, they should BILL you. If you CHOOSE to buy Insurance, then Insurance Pays. If you are on Medicaid or Medicare, then they Pay, and if you CHOOSE not to have Insurance, then YOU PAY.
If our SYSTEM worked honorably, people would BE held Accountable for their Choices.
But, no...the Democratic MANTRA....NOTHING is my fault, it's all someone else's, therefore I should not have to Pay!!
Bah, humbug....the Lack of Honor, Integrity, Values, Responsibility of the LEFT is disgusting....
The sense of Entitlement and warped sense of Equality, Fairness and Justice is a DISEASE.

I hate to burst your bubble, but if one goes to the ER it is not automatically paid by the tax payers. If you have a job or assests, the hospital will sue you personally if you do not pay.
What you don't understand is the insurance companies are going to increase everyone's premiums in order to pay for those who can't afford it, what's so difficult about this for you to understand? I will have to pay more out of my pocket to have health care, while the welfare class get yet another hand out. How about you liberals give a thought to the working class in this country instead of always crying about the free loaders who refuse to work for a living?

So, you approve of the imposition of the highest tax increase in US history, huh? If you've got all that money to throw around, how about floating me a small loan?

So, say you're healthy. You don't buy insurance for that year. You don't use any health care services that year. Why should you be penalized for that?

Because letting them die is progress against the growing population crisis.
So without healthcare to let them live (plus the ones that can't afford it usually are the least important), they are helping by taking their chances.

They don't need to be legally penalised, our bodies naturally break down over time and when they're dead at 45 they'll have helped us both out.
