Before you decide to workout at a gym you first need to write down a routine. Bring that piece of paper to the gym with you and pretty soon you will memorize your routine. Figure out what muscles groups you want to exercise each day. Then, just workout every day, preferably at the same time for about an hour. You also need to run a little bit if you want to get leaner.
Because you are a vegetarian it will not be as easy for you to get the protein you need. I suggest going out and buying protein powder. You can mix it with any drink. Speaking of drinks, you want to drink milk and water only from now on. I workout as well, and have a sweet tooth like yourself. You can still eat some junk-food but if you are really committed to your weightlifting process then you will seriously cut down on the bad food. I always get severe sugar cravings at night and a helpful way to satisfy them is to eat peanut butter. I eat this with a sliced apple and banana, and this fills me up and satisfies my sweet tooth and so then I go to bed.

You can still eat SOME junk food, but you will have to limit it. This is good advice whether or not you are trying to build muscle. If anything, you can eat MORE junk food if you work out, but you should still try and limit it as much as you possibly can.
Don't believe what others tell you that you need tons and tons of protein to build muscle. Yes, you do need protein, but most Americans get more than enough, and some get too much. Eat lots of whole grains and lentils, these when combined give you plenty of protein. You can also turn to tofu, lowfat dairy, and eggs. In fact, eggs are REALLY a good source.
Make sure you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
Don't listen to this retard below me. Protein powders are NOT regulated. I can make some junk in my basement and sell it as protein powder. Indgredients are not checked. Moreover, anyone who tells you that you need protein powder is just plain stupid. Same with telling you to work out every day. SO DUMB.
