Is getting a prepaid Visa/Master Card worth it?

I was wondering if buying a prepaid visa/mastercard from green dot is worth it. I'm 17 and I'll be 18 soon, and I have a little boy. I thought it'd be nice because I could buy things online or off my kindle or phone and I wouldn't have to keep asking my parents for there card number and pay them back lol. I have a job and all, and sometimes I don't like to have cash in my hand, cause I'm bad at saving. I thought giving myself a certian amount on a card, and saving the rest would be better. Not really sure though. Any advice with this product? Please & Thank you :)

I suggest you get a checking account.

By the age of 18, you should have at least a year's of experience with a checking.

You will get a debit/check card that you can use for all your purchases.

If you are under 18, just go with a parent to the bank to open this up.

Disappointed they have shown no interest in teaching you about finances.

Responsibility of a checking account will teach you how to save.

Your first goal is to keep at least 2 weeks pay as a minimum in this account at all times.

    all depends on your needs/situation...

there is an activation fee taken from it for starters....does each buy have a penalty associated

with it too? depends on the card issuer....

wont be accepted in on line buys...cuz they have no way of verifying the balance left on the

card at that moment..its not like a true credit card that can be on the spot verified.

only you can answer the question of real need or not........but you will take a 5.00 hit right off

when they turn on the card for starters. cash? easier/better/simpler for everyday stuff and

no penalty. cant control it? dont carry it around/carry only so much...hide the rest and keep

your hands off it/you need especially with little one there to learn self discipline...there's always

going to be something to buy or need....thats called marketing/its up to you to make that

call whether you really do or not...........

Wait until you're 18 and get a checking account with a debit card. The prepaid cards come with a lot of fees. You can find free checking accounts and use your debit card without fees.
