What are the Sabres doing ?
They just traded away Derek Roy, typically a 70+ point Center, for Steve Ott, a typically 30+ point LW.
That leaves the Sabres with the unproven Cory Hodgson (who went from 33 pts and +8 in 63 games for Vancouver, to 8 pts and -7 in 20 games for Buffalo), Ville Leino (who went from 53 points and a +2 in 81 games with Philadelphia, to 25 points and a -2 in 71 games for Buffalo) and Luke Adam, who has 24 points in his 71 game career so far with Buffalo. Not one of them has a 50%+ faceoff rating (guess who did, Derek Roy).
They don't even need a LW. I respect Ott as a player, but Vanek has the lead role on LW, and between Ennis leading the team in +/- and putting up better points than Ott, and Foligno having a breakout performance last season with 13 points in his 14 games, the LW role seems reasonably well established.
I just do not see what the Sabres hoped to gain from this, unless there is a trade offer in the works for an all-star center. The Sabres seem to be out to miss the playoffs again, before the season even begins.
That one was on Lindy Ruff. He openly blamed his core lineup for the Sabres problems.
Derek Roys statement was merely a response to that. “Behind closed doors it’s fine. It’s not fun, but it’s good to be hard on your players. Behind closed doors, on the bench. I’m not a coach, but I don’t think it’s right thing to be saying it to the media.”
I fail to see which part of that statement, would get him traded, other than Lindy Ruff being a complete hypocrite.

Roy didn't fit in Lindy Ruff's system because he wants his players to be two-way forwards and defensemen. Roy never played great defense and wasn't a great team player (not hustling all the time, slow to the bench, not always serious, etc.). Lindy did what he does to all of his players by holding them accountable and calling them out to the media, and Roy and Brad Boyes are the only two who have complained about it.
Roy will likely have a great year in Dallas because he is going to a system that fits him and he will try more in his contract year.
Next point: Steve Ott is a center, not a left winger.
Third, Cody Hodgson will bounce backbecausee he now has an offseason with the team. Villie Leino will not be playing center this year, so he will be more comfortable. Their centers will be Ott, Hodgson, Tyler Ennis (who isn't a LW), and Mikhail Grigorenko. If Grigs doesn't play this season, Adam will play center. If Grigs does play, Adam will play on the wing. Leino will play LW.

Derek Roy had to go. He called out Lindy Ruff, and Ott is a good pickup considering they lost Gaustad at the deadline last year. If Leino can bounce back, and the guys like Pominville, Vanek and Ennis can produce, the Sabres may be good. They have good defense too (Reghyr, Myers, Erhoff) and a solid goaltender when he's on his game. I think that the Sabres will bounce back with a better year.

nicely who have been the adult males that sat throughout the time of the playoffs? Stafford, Paille and Paetsch, who can play as a protection adult males or forward. so they are your 3 roster spots. bear in techniques Briere grow to be no person till now he got here to the Sabres, hell we've been given him for Chris Gratton!! human beings theory it grow to be the tip whilst they have been given rid of p.c.., then devil, then Mckee , nope they only have been given extra desirable and performed like a team. you're able to even say Pyatt, he had 37 factors final year for Vancouver. dropping Drury sucked yet good day he grew up a Ranger fan. the only difficulty i'm hoping will come of that's that they start to do contacts throughout the time of the season, which i'm particular they are going to via the way, they had no cap area final year on the commerce cut-off date to truly do something. This year they wont have that difficulty.

They are trying to get tougher. They get beat up by the Bruins all the time. Although Ott is no Lucic , Chara or Thornton in the toughness factor- he is a step in the right direction. All of the teams in the division are bulking up- Montreal is getting tougher too.
