I'm wracking my brain trying to remember their name... they're a pretty tough and persistent bunch, that's for certain!! Not sure why you'd want to get rid of them: they don't become unsightly like dandelions and they are quite pretty. They add color to your lawn. That said, if you are dead set against the poor defenceless critters, go to any lawn and garden center and ask them for a week killer that control broad-leafed weeds. They should have them in environmentally safe versions... discuss the problem with the most knowledgeable person you can find there, to make sure you get an appropriate chemical, and follow the directions closely.

Looks like Bugleweed to me
http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view;_ylt=A0...
Bugleweed is a groundcover. A neighbor probably has some growing in their garden and it has made its' way to your yard. I dig them out of the lawn and set them in my flowerbeds. People pay good money for these at the nursery. Any decent herbicide will kill it for you. Personally, I think it's pretty growing on a lawn.
