I purchased a "Certified" 2005 Dodge Dakota 29 days ago and nothing but problems?

Hey everyone, I'm hoping I can get some insight on an issue that is about to drive me crazy.

On June 4th, 2012 I purchased a Certified Pre-owned 2005 Dodge Dakota Laramie, fully equipped with 64,000 miles for $15,300.

The truck came with a 3 year 3,000 mile powertrain warranty. My first week of ownership spelled problems when going over any bump would make a high pitch squeak. I shrugged it off. I am self-employed, drive close to 2500 to 3000 miles a month, and carry a small trailer (8 foot with a mower on the back) so a squeak was the least of my problems. The squeak got much louder within the next couple days so I started investigating. Obviously, with only 60k on the truck, it still has the factory sealed upper and lower ball joints, tie-rods... So I can't grease them, and I know that they aren't covered under my limited warranty... So now I'm just pissed because I will have to eat a $1000 front-end job.

The next days to come spelled more trouble with the engine abruptly stalling at a stop light. (this now was a common occurrence going into week 2-3 of ownership. Being out in the field I can't drop everything and rush to the dealer so I kept an eye on it. The transmission began "slam-shifting" into overdrive on week three (last week) and immediately following the check engine light turned on and I said enough was enough.

I took it in yesterday and gave the service manager a list of issues I am having, with mileage and dates and he looked at me like I was speaking German. He told me he doubted ANY of that is covered but I will look at it regardless and let you know what I find out. I told him that it's pretty ridiculous that my first payment isn't even due yet and I'm having these problems and his response was, "well this happens unfortunately".

Today I get a call from the service manager, he said that there is nothing covered with the truck. It needs the following,

Sway bar bushings

2 Upper balljoints

2 lower balljoints

1 tie-rod end

Downstream oxygen sensor

Transmission diagnostics....

NONE OF THAT IS COVERED? what a surprise. I've been taken by a dealer.

I have put 2,500 miles on this truck, have owned it for 29 days, haven't even made my first payment yet and I'm looking at well over $2,000 in repair? I am so furious right now. When I told the salesmen what I was looking for I specifically said "A reliable truck that isn't going to need $2000 in work a week after I leave here!" and looks like they gave me just that, and their play-toy warranty only covers the "Major lubricated parts of the engine and transmission" So that narrows it down to the pistons and the crankshaft and gears in the tranny. Unreal.

Do I have ANY, and I mean ANY options at all regarding this? I am thinking of just telling them I want my money back and hire a lawyer, because I know they will laugh at me when I tell them I want my money back. I haven't been able to work for 3 days now because of this and I will likely loose my clients because of this matter. (No other vehicle, and I need to tow a trailer for the mower so I can mow).

I guess I also need to ask them what the hell "Certified" means because obviously, it means nothing.

Please help guys!

Some states have lemon laws see if your state has one. There's also a small claims court option which one could consider court arbitration. The max tort a court could give you is Prob ten grand which would payfor the repairs but no lawyer should be needed. But I would have documentation on the repairs. You could get the repairs done pay the bill then get the court to refund the repairs plus your time spent on the whole affair. A judge should be sympathetic.

You were free to check it out prior to buying it.

Certified just means you overpaid for a better warranty on the big things.

Still, hard to believe the truck has ALL those problems with just 60k miles.

Ask for the general manager and see if he will help.

He doesn't have to...but he might pitch in for some of the cost.

Nope. Aside from paying up and making repairs.

I'm not sure what "Certified" means on a seven-year old Chrysler product, either, but I wouldn't have a $15k loan to pay back either just to find out the hard way. It's a used vehicle, it happens.

    Good luck.

Backfires and skill loss sounds like a gasoline pump to me. I truly have had a number of backfire by way of spark plug wires getting previous, yet that ought to wish to were dealt with contained in the track. If someone has tried to time it with a timing mild, that ought to correctly be a contributing aspect besides. the computer regulates timing after the distributor is "listed" with a test device. yet another difficulty I truly were operating into more desirable oftentimes lately than previously is cracked cylinder heads on the 5.2L and 5.9L. i have not considered it as a lot on the three.9L. A compression attempt ought to or would not exhibit in the experience that they are cracked. If the porcelain insulator on any of the spark plug electrodes were cracked contained in the former plugs, or signs and indicators of coolant on the plugs, it ought to probably be a cracked cylinder head. sometimes, all we are able to do it R&R the heads after we tried many different issues and look at them. maximum of thetime I cna see them with my bare eye, yet sometimes I truly might want to deliver them out for magna-fluxing to go back across. in the experience that they are cracked it really is going to be correct by potential of the valve seats that are machined into the heads, which makes it sometimes puzzling to go back across as cylinder temp can deplete or settlement smaller cracks. yet another difficulty I truly have considered, no matter if not as regularly to any extent further, is the pan gasket on the intake manifold blows out and leaks vacuum internally. to envision this, get rid of the PCV from the valve conceal and block off both the PCV and the grommet contained in the valve conceal. next, get rid of the breather hose from the air cleanser and placed your thunb over the hose. it really is going to construct rigidity, no matter if a small volume. in case you experience vacuum, the gasket is blown and the intake manifold should be bumped off and the pan gasket on the bottom of the manifold replaced (alongside with the intake manifold gasket.) it truly is ones like this that reason such an excellent number of folk to both pass bald or early gray, LOL.
