Is the mileage for the 2001 and 2002 PT Cruiser stored in the odometer or in the vehicle computer?

I bought a PT Cruiser that clearly had its odometer OR its computer replaced at some point and has the wrong mileage. The title shows more miles than the odometer. Based on repair receipts, I can get a good idea of how many miles should be on it and so I'd actually like to add mileage. I found an odometer with higher miles at a junk yard, is the mileage in the computer or the digital odometer?

Update:

@ Tex- All cars have 6 digit odometers these day and the PT is no exception. So if it rolled over a million miles, your answer would make sense. You say you're an ASE, eh?

@ Gregg- Why would the previous owner have replaced the BCM? And what exactly is rewriting vehicle identification numbers? How and why do you rewrite them?

Neither. it is stored in the BCM body control module.

added : Chrysler had major problems with BCMs those years. they are very expensive brand new so alt of people get used ones from junkyards. you have to rewrite vin #s anytime you replace the pcm.

The speedometer was replaced and there should be a stick under the hood or the driver door. It does not matter if the computer was replaced. It has no recorder of how far the vehicle has been. If you sale it you should disclose if the speedometer was replaced. If the number are not fully in lines with each other. It means the it has turn over 100000 miles plus the milage on it now. So if may not had been changed out. Hope this help you.
