As the saying goes "you have to spend money in order to make money." One of the main reasons why conservative tycoons have been dumping so much money into races against Democrats is so they can be taxed less under Republicans. For example, Obama and most Democrats wanted to even out the tax rates between them and the working class, but they failed to get that passed through the Senate. Meanwhile, Romney's plan is said to actually raise taxes on lower-income Americans and cut social programs, while lowering taxes for the upper class.

Interestingly enough it was as a draft to the Heritage Foundation (a conservative think tank) that the idea of global healthcare came about. It was also an idea that Romney founded and supported white he was governor of Massachusetts. What essentially occurred is the influence of wealthy companies - insurance and pharmaceuticals - who deemed the proposals unprofitable and are providing huge financial support to candidates who are now changing the viewpoint of their party's initial thoughts.

The big money people that control the Republicans see Obamacare as a threat to their profits. Therefore, its worth it to them to try to bring it down. A few million in propaganda now can save them billions later.

Its all about money and power when you are looking at that group. Appeals to come together won't go anywhere unless it is an advantage for the one percent.
