pyrometer egt jumping too high at idle?

I have the 7.3 powerstroke diesel. the egt gauge stays at about 1100-1200 most all day while going down the road but at idle it always seems to just jump all of a sudden all the way around past 20 and back to 0 almost, but as soon as i get back on the gas it goes back to where it should be. is something wrong with the truck, thermocoupler,or gauge

Had the same issue with my GlowShift EGT gauge. I tried replacing the probe....no go. I tested the gauge the way their tech support told me to and it checked out. Only possibility I think it could have been is the signal amplifier in the gauge. That seems to be the trend of the problems. You can try replacing the probe. Its just one of those problems you got to determine how you want to throw parts at it.

Try contacting the mfg. of the gauge to get their insight.

I have the AeroForce Interceptor gauge now and LOVE it.
