The Higgs boson is supposedly the source of mass in matter. Without mass, matter could not exist. Hence, the Higgs boson is the source of matter, and hence the source of our existence. Thus, God particle.
It is also the crowning achievement of the standard model of quantum physics.

It is a bow to God. The proof of the existence of the "God Particle" proves that "God" does truly exist. No one has been able to create the actual particle -- as no one could ever create God. (Read the scientific data)
But the scientists were able to prove that there is really the existence of a single energy (God) capable of creating all matter, energy, and everything we know. Furthermore, the "God particle" proves that there are multi-dimensional aspects of time and space which we as humans could never understand -- further cementing that God does exist.
Basically, all the money and time that the scientists dumped into this project proved what those of us in faith already knew. But since the scientists said "NO we need to see the proof to believe it" they had to find a way to come up with the proof.
Now any scientist (or anyone else) who claims that "God" does not exist has lost all creditability because the scientific community has proved that "God" is real.

It doesn't actually portray a god, it's simply a nickname for it. It allows mass to exist, such as many believe that a god lets us exist.
The nickname was derived from Leon Lederman's book, The God Particle: If the Universe Is the Answer, What Is the Question?
- leflerLv 45 years ago
The scientific approach neither proves, nor disproves god. If god exists as defined, it exists outdoors of nature and technology is in basic terms attracted to interpreting the organic international. If there's a god, and it has no effect on the organic international, then it is of no effect. If there's a god and it has an effect on the organic international, then those outcomes would be measured and examined. Eiter way, technology is in basic terms interpreting the organic international.

"Lederman said he gave it the nickname "The God Particle" because the particle is "so central to the state of physics today, so crucial to our understanding of the structure of matter, yet so elusive."
The nickname is used by laymen, not scientists.

Because it is meant to appeal to the general public who have a limited knowledge of science. I don't think it is helpful to call it the God particle.

because it's a contorversial and catchy name that retarded reporters drum up to misrepresent science just like always.

Cause the discoverer, Dr. Higgs, was nicknamed god in his college
