toro lawn mower won't start?

i have a toro push mower with automatic rear wheel drive and electric ignition starter. the starter turns over but the motor doesnt start. it acts like it's out of gas. the pull cord doesnt work either. it's just dead. new spark plug.

i pulled the air filter and it was very dirty. i cleaned it. i took the silver carb cover off and cleaned out that little brass screw. the throttle control is engaging when you pull the start bar safety thing down.

any ideas on what i can do before i put it in the shop? it ran great this morning and wouldnt start this afternoon. thank you! jim

Take the filter off and pour about a tablespoon of gas directly into the carb then try to pull starter cord. A mech showed me this trick and it works every time. Don'r forget to add fresh new premium gas due to the recently gov't mandated gas additives have affected storage life.

First I would look to see if the plug is firing. Take the plug out and put the cap on without putting it back into the motor. Lay the plug on some piece of metal that the plug wire will let you reach. Have someone hold down the bar and pull it over. See if you see a yellow or blue spark jump the gap in the plug. If you have spark definitely a gas problem. There is to much to type to tell you what to look for next. You can contact me and we can figure out the next step. Hope it helps a little.
