hi. austin has experienced colder prolonged temps than normal. well, i have an outdoor coil on a heat pump that is an ice block, (ie, frozen over). is this a refrigerant problem, a defrost circuit problem, a pressure switch issue or a temp switch problem? i think the unit uses hot gas for the defrost circuit. OR, could the outdoor fan have failed? thank you! jim

about a golf ball sized painful lump on the back of my heel? it's very painful and hard to walk, much less jog/run. could this be a tendon problem or what? thank you. jim

i want to check the circuit breakers out. i have no idea which individual breaker controls the dead circuit. SO, i want to use a volt meter to check each breaker at the panel. with the breaker on, i should read zero volts across my meter, right? and if i read voltage across a live breaker, that means it's bad, right? any helpful hints would be appreciated. thank you! jim

hi. i recently replaced the exterior paneling on an entry way. when i reinstalled the light fixtures they are dead. they are wired correctly, blk to blk, wht to wht, new bulbs, and the breakers seem to be on. i know i didnt cut any wires. WTF could this be? could paint on the bare copper wires interfere with the connections? any help would be appreciated. thank you. jim

hi there. i have some exterior paneling on a entry way that is rotten at the bottom. i don't know if i should replace all of the paneling or simply cut out the rotten part and make a waynes-scott wall with trim. i could put some molding over the cuts and do it that way. any ideas? thanks! jim

hi. i'm going to build a back yard shed, 8 X 12 maybe. foundation will be on bricks, eve roof, unfinished interior. should i use ceiling joists or not? i could just use the rafters and bracing for support. ceiling joists or not? i can't decide. and if i use paneling on the exterior, should i jip rock the exterior walls? thank you! jim

i have a toro push mower with automatic rear wheel drive and electric ignition starter. the starter turns over but the motor doesnt start. it acts like it's out of gas. the pull cord doesnt work either. it's just dead. new spark plug.

i pulled the air filter and it was very dirty. i cleaned it. i took the silver carb cover off and cleaned out that little brass screw. the throttle control is engaging when you pull the start bar safety thing down.

any ideas on what i can do before i put it in the shop? it ran great this morning and wouldnt start this afternoon. thank you! jim

i'm not so much interested in political view points or if it's a good or bad thing, but, i'm wondering how it will affect self employed folks who file 1040 long, schedule SE and may claim less income than they really make, (cash is king!). if a 1099 is involved, that's the income that is reported.

SO, let's say somebody who is self employed claims 15,000 in income. that's not much and said somebody pays FICA and SS tax on 15K. does the new law put that person on his states medi caide or what? how's this thing a ma jig gonna work? thank you. jim

i have a vertical air handler where the indoor fan is below the evap coil, pull through i think it's called. air handler is in a mechanical closet and the primary drain line goes directly to a plumbed in drain. i don't need a 2nd drain line. there is another stubbed out pvc line coming from the evap that is shooting refrigerated air into the closet. is that where a 2nd drain line would go and can i cap it off so that all that extra cold air isnt shooting into the closet? what is that 2nd pvc line for and can i cap it off? thanks. jim

exactly what state is refrigerant in when it leaves the compressor? it comes in a super heated vapor, get's compressed, absorbs heat from the compressor, and leaves a hot gas until it condenses in the condenser and liquifies under pressure, right? OR, does some of it liquify in the compressor? does all of the condensation of the refrigerant occur in the condenser coil? i know by the time it leaves the condenser it's a sub cooled liquid, but does any of it liquify before then? (there are no stupid questions.) thank you. jim

typical residential up flow system. 3 ton, electric heat, a coil evap. where the heck is the expansion valve? i can't find it. is this probably maybe a capillary tube system and if it is a txv or axv where the hell is it? i can't find it and or figure it out. that we would all be equal. just do away with marriage as an institution? homo's, hetro's, TG's, could all hook up but no benefits. no shared health care, no pension, or SS benefits. were all equal. what's wrong with that idea?
