How do I prevent maggots in my garbage?

It's the garbage bin outside the house. We put all of our garbage from kitchen scraps to office waste into the same bin. When conditions are right, it can get pretty nasty with maggots. Any advice on what might deter flies/maggots in the future?

Keep the trash containers clean.Wash with dish soap and then again with bleach and water.Dry well. Do not let trash containers get wet.

    Spray them with insect repellent.

Keep the kitchen scraps in a separate container and make sure to bag everything up very well.

You'll have to get a separate bin for kitchen scraps and other bio waste. Rotting food draws flies, which lay eggs that hatch into maggots. So put your food scraps into a separate sealed bin that the flies can't get into and you shouldn't have any more problem with maggots.

Separate your waste. If you separate your bio waste from your other waste, there should be no more maggots. As for the bio waste, use a special bin for that, they are cheap and handle it great.
