Fit points of Time in Sci-fi?

Many Science-Fiction stories have what is called “A fix point in time”. These are events that are supposed to be so important to the future that nothing can change them. One of these in many stores is the John F. Kennedy assassination. The way the Fix Point in Time theory goes I could go back in time when Oswald was 8 years old, kidnap and kill him. Still on November 22, 1963 in Dallas TX. at the Dealey Plaza at 12:30 CST Kennedy will be shot and killed. If before they started the drive I had put a hole in the tire for some reason the air would not have leaked out. Would it not be so that if there are fix points in time and no matter what is done the event will still happen as planned be proof that there is a God? Someone has to not only be in control but to have so much power over events that nothing stops the event. All things are done according to God’s plan and not even time travelers or Time Lords can stop it.

There are hundreds of SF stores about alternate histories. Some are serious, but most are just entertainment. For a different view about (non) fixed points in time, I suggest you read "Thus we Frustrate Charlemagne", by R.A. Lafferty.

I really don't understand your comment about God. If you take away free-will, that would seem to make all discussions about God, Vishnu, etc pointless.

  • Really? The only one I know of is Doctor Who. Its a plot device to explain why something must not be changed when the doctor does nothing but butcher the time line at every given opportunity.

It has no bases in fact however. I cannot follow you logic you seem to get from Sci-Fi, to JFK, to "this proves god". You start with a FICTIONAL premise as the foundation of this proof, you see the problem there?

As an aside its FIXED point in time. "fix point" makes no sense.

Your conclusion is based on a science fiction not reality. So it makes no sense.

Its like saying you assume 6 is "apples", hence 2 x 3 = apples. If only one can prove that 6 is actually equal to apples, then the hypothesis is true, else everything is FALSE...

I like how on Red Dwarf, they accidentally disrupted Kennedy's assassination so it was necessary to get Kennedy to shoot himself from the grassy knoll.
