What does it mean to 'contend for the faith'?
Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

While the salvation of those to whom he wrote was not in jeopardy, false teachers preaching and living out a counterfeit gospel were misleading those who needed to hear the true gospel.
Jude wrote this urgent imperative for Christians to wage war against error in all forms and fight strenuously for the truth, like a soldier who has been entrusted with a sacret task of guarding a holy treasure(cf. 1 Tim. 6:12, 2 Tim. 4:7)

"Earnestly contend for the religion that replaced into dropped on the saints of old" Jude 3. The Bible describes this "faith" as a results of fact the actual faith of the Christian in Rev. 14:12 "right that's the persistence of the saints. listed below are they that shop the commandments of God and the religion of Jesus" The commandments and Jesus' teachings are the middle of the church and could be upheld.

well, in LDS theology, a spirit of contention is of the devil, or satanic spirit.
remember the bible says that satan will rage in the hearts of men in the last days, (can you say road rage, or can you say steroid rage, or wait can you say sorcery and poison?)
anyway, contention of the spirit is of satan. it is to be avoided, especially if one is born again and sees no advantage in gaining a convert.
then again, what Paul is saying, is that he will contend against false doctrines and with men to gain the convert. ive been in arguments over scriptures and traditions that cause contention and so i leave. ive been in debates where all people concerned had faith but neither would beleive in the others faith. nevertheless, all christians, no matter what sect or denomination or cult, all beleive that jesus is the saviour and messiah. all christianity beleives jesus is the lord. we can start there and then come to unity..

That's what Christians are doing on this site *smile*....contending for the faith by answering questions about Christianity and/or the bible.

But behold, my beloved brethren, I judge better things of you, for I judge that ye have faith in Christ because of your meekness; for if ye have not faith in him then ye are not fit to be numbered among the people of his church.
40 And again, my beloved brethren, I would speak unto you concerning hope. How is it that ye can attain unto faith, save ye shall have hope?
41 And what is it that ye shall hope for? Behold I say unto you that ye shall have hope through the atonement of Christ and the power of his resurrection, to be raised unto life eternal, and this because of your faith in him according to the promise.
42 Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.
43 And again, behold I say unto you that he cannot have faith and hope, save he shall be meek, and lowly of heart.

It means spout nonsense in a self-righteous fashion and make a nuisance of yourself. Then you get to feel like you are being persecuted for the faith when people tell you to STFU.

It means to defend, desire , treasure and fight for your faith so it is not moved or shaken .

Faith should be demonstrated and not contended for.

It means to be holy and fervent and half crazy; and when an atheist asks a question they can't answer, to inform him he's an idiot.
