Why does my dog keep trying to lick my new piercing?

I had my belly button pierced a week ago, and whenever I call my dog, he runs up to me and tries to lick where my piercing is! When I push him off he is still determined! Any idea why he is doing this?

He is a boxer dog, 6 months old, called Rambo :}

    Dogs often try and lick wounds.

    No doubt he senses the blood and possibly an early infection coming on and is trying to help.

    He probably detects an injury, clean the wounds and check for an early sign of injury or infection.
