Anything can break. From a gun to a toaster. Worth? Depends on condition, but at least $700.

I`m trying to relate to your circumstance so here goes. If your Dad is still living then the sentimental value is not as great as if He were gone, As far as actual value without seeing the revolver, I would say $1500.

I would not shoot it unless I were a Colt Python enthusiast because they are temperamental and if the cylinder got out of time you probably would not want to spend the money to fix it. And not just any gunsmith knows how.

I would sell it if it were mine and save the money and find something cheaper.

You are probably going to get an opposite answer from mine from a Colt Python Fan because they sometimes can put up with a lot of maintenance and expense because they can justify it.

Keeping it is an option because they will increase in value over the years, but it will always be a money tree when you get the hots for something else.

Most Colt Python owner will NEVER admit this, but it is true.I have been told by experienced gunsmiths that the Colt Python does not hold its timing for long if enough full charge magnum rounds are put through it.Then the gun will begin shaving lead. As far as the possibility of the gun breaking otherwise, it is a mechanical device, subject to failure at any time.
