How to get work experience?

I am 17, soon to be 18 in UK and I want to go into automotive engineering which is a competitive area. I will be starting my last year at college in September and I would like to do some work experience to put on my CV/apprenticeship applications as everyone I have talked to has suggeted that it would be a good idea to make them look good.

But can anyone suggest how to do this? Should I just write to places and ask if they will have me for a short period of time or is there another way?

thank you :)

I would call them up and explain that you are very keen and eager to learn the trade, if you get it then you make sure that you show your keen

Source(s): I did work experiance last year and they offered me an apprenticeship because i made sure that i was willing to learn. This is at a auto electrical garage

I don't know exactly what "automotive engineering" is, is that an auto mechanic?

You are finishing college at 18, that's great most kids are just finishing High School at that age unless in your country that is one in the same?

Check with a school counselor/adviser for advice, perhaps the have a program that can help you. You might also call several businesses, their HR department or a manager (don't just speak to anybody), tell them you are going into your last year of college; your goal and that you are trying to gain experience in their industry and ask if they would be willing to take you on as an intern for a couple of months. Before you make any of these calls have your ideas/plans in writing so you are organized, for example; How many hours a week you could work; what days; are you willing to do a paid and or unpaid internship; for how long... YOU need to remember to be flexible since you are the one seeking the experience.

If ur going into automotive engineering i would look up car manufacturers in your area and make an appearance... just calling them probably wont help cuz they will have no idea who u are... bring in some stuff from ur school to show rhem and make sure they understand u only want to intern... it wilk make them more likely to say yes
