They do not understand Christianity at all for the most part.
So how is their atheism an informed decision.

No, it's the first COVENANT that's not relevant anymore; Christ fulfilled it upon the cross. But the 10 Commandments (laws) are most CERTAINLY still relevant. Obey the Lord thy God, respect parents, don't steal, don't murder, love thy neighbor as thyself, etc. And hence we still do this today...
Jeremiah 31:31 - "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:"
Hebrews 8:13 - "A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away."
Matt.26:28 - "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins."
Hebrews 7:22 - "By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament."

Well, if that's what Christians believe- if eating ham is fine, than murder is fine. It's all outlawed in the Torah. They cherry pick the f*ck out of the law- they're hypocrites. They'll eat pork and not give two sh*ts about the Sabbath, but they'll protest gays like no tomorrow. F*ck them.
EDIT: The quote from that atheist is that Christians hold to the Bible and use that for the source of their morality instead of modern culture. That atheist more than likely doesn't think that murder is okay because the OT isn't "relevant" anymore. He's just going by "Christian logic" and how they use the Bible as a moral code. Speaking as an atheist myself, my answer has a similar sentiment.

Well, not all atheists have read the bible,
but that's a drop in the bucket compared
to all the ignorance I've seen Christians
(and others) post here.
Edit - Jesus Christ addressed murder and
adultery in the Sermon on the Mount (found
in the gospel of Matthew). So, the atheist
who made this statement must not be aware
of this and made a fool of him/herself.

the OT is still relevant. Some of the ceremonial customs and the punishment for sin was removed, but the rest was left intact. The ceremonial laws where removed because most of the christians appeared from people that where not of jewish origins. The punishment was removed because Christ said: "God does not want the death of the sinner but to return to Him and be alive again"

Just because a book is wrong doesn't mean murder and rape are ok. Do you really need to be told what's right and wrong? Can't you figure it out for yourself?

Funny, I thought we already had a set of laws called the "penal code." It sounds like you never heard of it.
