Birthday gift for best friend?

So it's my best friend's 16th birthday on Saturday and I was planning on getting her a Pysch pillow because she loves Pysch, but I decided against it because I thought something homemade would be better and because my parents said that we need to be very careful about how much money we spend. So I'm making her a pillow. It's her favorite color, yellow,  and I'm sewing in an "I" in the corner because of her name beginnings with an "I".  I'm also planning on maybe making a bracelet or earrings.  If I don't make any jewelry, I might go and buy some jewelry. I'm actually getting a bit conscious now of how my gift will look compared to whatever the other people will bring. Anyway, so my question was that would it be weird and not good to gift someone a pillow for their 16th birthday even if it's homemade? Should I go and just buy something tomorrow?

Update:

Well, I'm not sure if it matter much, but the pillow is just square. It's not a special shape or anything.

I think a custom decorated pillow would be a great idea. But i would recommend buying not jewelry - its very impersonal and since you already made her something you could continue with that theme. Like some other decorative thing that will match the pillow, like a picture frame with a pic of both of you. That way she'll have a pair of nice, decorative objects to put in her room.

If pillow is homemade then it will fine just add some details not exaggerated it should look like a psyching shining star over so it will be fine don't waste money on buying bracelet or all these

I am sure that true friends do not notice the gifts you give but will be happy just by the mere presence of you. Anyway if it is your idea to give gifts then anything from your heart(like pillow in this case) will be good. Real friends don't value the friendship by the gifts but by the value you give to their life. So don't worry about the gift you give. Just make her happy by your presence.

I think what your doing is an awesome idea. One time one of my friends for my birthday got me a memory box (kind of like that one from the movie Bridesmaids!) it was filled with pictures of us and our favorite candy and things to remind us of our memories together, it was awesome. The best gift i have ever received, hands down.

She's your best friend! I'm not goin to lie though, for my birthday, my bff knitted me something completely useless. I honestly would've preferred a gift card to Victoria Secret or American Eagle. That sounds mean, i know, but that's what i thought. But i appreciated and loved the fact that it came from her heart. But I'd just go buy her some shirts or give her money so you two can go shopping togeher :) That way the birthday present doesn't end after she ends it.

    good luck!

If she's your best friend she will like anything you get her so just make sure it's something from the heart and I'm sure she will love it.
