Dominican Republic visit with a side trip to Haiti?

During a week long SCUBA trip to DR in the the Jaragua National Park area I would like to take an over night visit to Jacmel Haiti. Is this practical and safe? I do NOT plan to visit Port-Au-Prince I know it is unsafe to visiting Foreigners. I speak only very basic Spanish or French...... Thank you

I have definitely been to Haiti numerous time and I haven't seen any of what the media portrays. I even had a trip to both DR and Haiti and felt safer in Haiti than I did in DR. You can actually find some really cheap vacation destinations in Haiti. They have really nice resort beaches especially in Cap-Haitien (the north) and Jacmel that I would never imagine existed because of what the media chooses to show about Haiti on the news. I was skeptical about going because I worry about safety but it was way safer than people portray it to be. I decided to go there and I had lots of fun!!!!!! A friend suggested this facebook page which changed my mind and made me go and I'll suggest it to you too. You can even see videos on youtube about vacations in Haiti. You can go through their pictures and see for yourself. http://www.facebook.com/HaitiTourismInc

I loved this resort! lots of activities for cheap even though it was near Port-au-Prince! http://www.kalikobeachclub.com/engl/index.php

If you do go to Haiti, you will definitely need more than one day to explore Jacmel or Cap-Haitien. There is a lot to learn about the Haitian culture and somehow I find myself going back on vacation there every time I get a chance.
