Can you avoid a change fee by showing up at the airport early and asking to be put on an earlier flight?

I paid about $250 for a plane ticket. My flight leaves around 6PM and arrives around 9PM, which means that when I get to my destination, I really wont be able to do anything that day. I'd prefer to leave earlier on the same day, get there earlier, and have some time to do some stuff at my destination before things shut down for the day. I called American Airlines, but they wanted $150 to change my ticket, which is ridiculous. So I was wondering, if I showed up on the day of my flight and asked if I could change to an earlier flight, would the people at the airport be able to make that happen without charging the $150 change fee?

American charges $50 for same day standby if you're not an elite level frequent flyer. Check-in agents probably have some latitude to waive it, so it couldn't hurt to ask politely.

regrettably, once you acquire the fee ticket you agreed to those words. There aren't any assistance right here. You made a mistake and now might want to stay with it. ultimately, you've a fee ticket that secures a seat on the airplane. that is it. in case you regulate it, you would possibly want to pay. in case you do not look, you nonetheless paid. attempt to bypass stand-by using is one problem (as with the visual attraction in at 10 AM at the same time as the airplane leaves at 10 PM) yet to call for a flight 4 days formerly is not likely going to happen. you may try stand by using, yet when this is someplace everyday, you gained't usually get on the flight.

You could show up early and if there is an available seat they will put you on it without an extra charge. However, if you have to make other connections that might be a problem hoping that every connection has extra seats for you. It is worth a try.
