    They only said PREFER.. While it is illegal to descriminate on gender, you're more than allowed to state what you prefer.

    Its probably due to heavy lifting but if you're willing to give it a go, apply. You may just be the person to change their mind.

    It would be discriminatory if it said something like "Only male candidates will be considered" or "Only male candidates need apply". If it's a grooming place, you will have to be lifting animals up and down off tables, and some dogs can be very heavy to lift like that. That's not to say a woman can't do it or wouldn't be considered, but if you're 5 feet tall and weigh 100 pounds you're going to struggle to lift an 80 pound Lab onto a waist high table.

    It is sexist unless there is no clear reason why a male would be needed.
