Titers testing for cats?

Vaccines are generally given every three years. There is a titer you can have the vet do for FVRCP (distemper). The titer for rabies is quite expensive though, as there are only a couple of labs in the country who are qualified to do it. The overnight shipping and the test itself (plus the vet charge for the blood draw) will cost you in excess of $200, plus the titer test results won't "count" if your cat bites someone and has to be quarantined for rabies at your expense. Not fair, I will admit - but the rabies vaccine is given to protect us humans as much or as more as our pets, as rabies *is* fatal. If your area legally requires the rabies vaccine, ask the vet about a safer vaccine called Pur-Vax - it is truly an annual vaccine and is without the risk of vaccine-induced sarcoma that the standard 3 year one has. You can choose to not have the FVRCP one done (and it should only be given every 3 years after the initial yearly booster) and there is no legal issue with it. Rabies is another story. And yes, indoor cats do NOT need the FeLV vaccine nor any others. You put your cats at less risk by minimizing the vaccines they get.

There are vets out there that have changed their minds about vaccines, and aren't against feeding raw. Perhaps you can look for another, more enlightened, vet in your area? Again, just like rabies, feeding raw has more risk to us humans than to our cats, but even our own dinners generally start out as raw meat ....

Why bother?

If you are not traveling with your cat it is not enforceable. The test for titers cost more then the vaccine

If your vet don't like it go to another. You are hiring them for the job you choose.

Like you I get the first set of vaccinations and that is it. The rest end up doing more harm then good

I am not about to say yes to everything that her vet tells me specially vaccine

I had 6 cats now 5 all indoor one died of feline Leukemia last May 2011. I get the Leukemia vaccine for all five for the next few years, the cost is only about $25.00 per cat total around$125.00 for all but it is worth it . I spend over $1,520 to kelp my cat alive it died 3 weeks .

I got my cats their second set of shots in their life and it weaken their immune system. They have food and dust allergies. They was in good health before then.

Get the shots when they need to be given. You can find this out at any humane society.
