Don't know about that but it may have been. true.

When you climb Triglav in Slovenia for the first time there is a long tradition that you get your *** spanked at the Aljaz Tower at the summit to celebrate the succes and get 'baptised' into the world of summiters.

I've climbed Triglav. Slovenia is a fabulous country, very small but full of lake and mountains, incredible caves, and great eating..

Well, "middle ages" is a rather vague definition which however comprises a time span from from about 5th to 15th century, i.e. ca. a millenium.

Since it is rather unclear who was "the visitor" and "the guard", it is not possible to answer the question. A general rule is not known, but until today there are a number of riviling Christian sects and churches who have several fights and conflicts inside the "Church of the Holy Sepulcher", since they appear to be insanely jealous about which part belongs to which denomination.
