Anyone proud not to be reading 50 shades of grey?
I refuse to read it but I am sick of all the women at work nattering about it like witches around a cauldron!
I refuse to read it because I have a very fulfilling sex life and I know if I read this, I would be disappointed because the sex 'scenes' in the book are boring apparently!
I know what happens at the end, and I find the end very ironic judging what the sorry is based on!
What do you the people who generally read it, do you think they are not getting enough? All the women that go on about the book do not like when their men look at porn!! They get jealous if their men so much as look in the direction of another woman! But these women fantasise about this men during sex! Which I think is odd and a bit eery if you ask me!
What do you think?

I have only the vaguest idea what it's about but generally if something is talked about as much as that is, it's not good. By the sounds of it it's the kind of thing I would've found on my mother's bookshelf and got a kick out of when I was a teenager.
I do find it slightly annoying that when women read stuff like that it's because they're empowered, modern women in control of their own sexuality but when men watch porn it's because they're filthy perverts. Nothing wrong with reading or watching something which one finds arousing, but lying about the quality just makes one look like they're ashamed.
I write erotica and publish it online and I'll be the first to admit that while it's not as balls-out as a lot of the other stuff I see, it's certainly not Dickens either. However the fact that the people who read what I write and leave feedback for me have no illusions about why I write or why they read justifies a slightly more bawdy nature. Actually with that in mind I'd be interested to flick through 50 Shades just to see how I compare. My mother is visiting soon, maybe I'll ask her to bring her copy of it.
PS. I certainly didn't know it started off as Twilight fanfic, that's even more depressing.

I see this book as just an adult version of the Twilight series, and even Twilight was better! At least it had some sappy stuff that all teens at one point fell head over heels with. But Fifty Shades is just like, as another person said, a silly, poorly written fanfic of sorts. I don't know why so many people are obsessed with it, unless people in America have some secret, dark fetish!
Not only is the topic of the book like a desperate girl's fantasy, the literature itself wasn't even good. You could find better writing on fanfiction.net. I know I sound like I'm hating, but honestly, if you're going to write about such a mature subject, at LEAST don't write as if you're a teenager, even though the main character of the book is really young.
All in all, a witch's cult novel.
I know I seem like I'm flaming. But it is super overrated. And I'm enraged that it's becoming a film, for Pete's sake. And there's speculation of some of my favorite actresses and actors playing Ana and Grey. Pitiful, Hollywood is pitiful.

The story simply doesn't appeal to me--the fans who read it have little influence on my decision not to read it.
Sometimes, though, I like to read popular books just so I can have an official opinion on it that isn't just me arbitrarily hating on it because of the fans. For example, I read The Hunger Games to get an informed opinion, and I actually went into it expecting it to be good and liking its premise. However, I came out of it thinking it's an awful book (painfully boring, to be honest), but I'm still glad I read it because now I can intelligently talk about it.
Because I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey, I can't argue for or against it. From what I've seen, though, it just appears to be another fad. And the fact that it started out as a Twilight Fanfic, apparently, isn't promising for its quality.

No. She's giggling all a thank you to the monetary company. Heck for that form of money i'm prepared to jot down a nasty pornographic version of starvation video games, rename the characters and identify it Fifty video games of Katherine. i'm embarrassed for individuals who particularly think of that is sweet writing and/or a stable tale and/or characters.

Good for you. I've read bits of the fan fiction and I immediately wanted to gauge out my eyes. Awful, awful, awful. I'm so glad I'm immune to fads. I wouldn't read these books if my family's life depended on it.

I saw this woman reading it in her lawn chair by the pool the other day. I deliberately splashed her a lot.

I am so proud of you right now, I don't even know what to say.
