Paul is writing to the Church at Ephesus, and in the first three chapters he stresses the revelation of God that was given to him concerning the Gentiles; the non-Jews, who were ordained by God to be joint-heirs of eternal life together with Israel; through the all inclusive redemptive work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Now in Chapters 4-5-6, after laying forth the doctrine, he begins to exhort those he is writing to what their proper response should be in the light of these truths. He begins then with these words:

" I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift."

    Ephesians 4:1-7 ESV

So he is saying the right response to being included by the grace of God in the promises that are in Christ are; humility; gentleness (or meekness); patience (especially towards one another); putting up with the weaknesses of others in love; always trying to do what it takes to maintain a solidarity and unity in the Spirit as a testimony to the world so they can see the work of God's grace in believers, and desire to have a share in it also.

    .

    :2

With all lowliness - It is by acting as the apostle here directs that a man walks worthy of this high vocation; ταπεινοφροσυνη signifies subjection or humility of mind.

Meekness - The opposite to anger and irritability of disposition.

Long-suffering - Μακροθυμια· Long-mindedness - never permitting a trial or provocation to get to the end of your patience.

Forbearing one another - Ανεχομενοι αλληλων· Sustaining one another - helping to support each other in all the miseries and trials of life: or, if the word be taken in the sense of bearing with each other, it may mean that, through the love of God working in our hearts, we should bear with each other’s infirmities, ignorance, etc., knowing how much others have been or are still obliged to bear with us.

    :3

Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace - There can be no doubt that the Church at Ephesus was composed partly of converted Jews, as well as Gentiles. Now, from the different manner in which they had been brought up, there might be frequent causes of altercation. Indeed, the Jews, though converted, might be envious that the Gentiles were admitted to the same glorious privileges with themselves, without being initiated into them by bearing the yoke and burden of the Mosaic law. The apostle guards them against this, and shows them that they should intensely labor (for so the word σπουδαζειν implies) to promote and preserve peace and unity. By the unity of the Spirit we are to understand, not only a spiritual unity, but also a unity of sentiments, desires, and affections, such as is worthy of and springs from the Spirit of God. By the bond of peace we are to understand a peace or union, where the interests of all parties are concentrated, cemented, and sealed; the Spirit of God being the seal upon this knot.

You picked a good verse. Your question was already answered so I won't try. But I will comment to say that this verse is a prime example of what Christianity is all about. People often get so caught up in Fire and Brimstone that they fail to see the not-so-exciting aspects of the religion. I also get excited when I read Jesus Christ's parables and other stories. It isn't about proving whether or not the Bible is a true story. We should be more concerned about what they all mean. It is obvious that many of today's youth have been going through life without hearing words like those in the passage. And it's a real shame too. I devote my life to exposing my children to things like that. It makes them bright and selfless.

It means that as a Christian we are to strive to keep unity and peace with others in the body of Christ. A way that we can accomplish this is through humility, gentleness, patience etc..

"bearing with one another" means simply to carry each others burdens. if ur bro/sis has a problem or particular sin [or not sin] than u help them the best u can. and dont get rpoud about "helping" them. it keeps the family strong and close.

@,, Matthew and John DID meet jesus.. and Luke and Mark were contemporaries. Go study some. And naturally there wouldnt be anything written in aramaic when majority of the new testaent was written in GREEK.

Honey, Luke, John, Matthew didnt even met Jesus. Go study yourself......Bible was corrupter by men hence no original copy in Aramaic is found. Try reading something that came out after Bible, like, I dont know, maybe The Holy Qur'an?

Well I can tell you one thing, if everyone in the world lived by that verse, this would be a totally different place now.

It means Christians aren't living up to their bible. Then again, it also promotes slaughter, so the division is a bit debatable.
