Don't have A/C, how can I keep my chinchillas from overheating?

The power went out at my house so I don't have any A/C right now. I'm hoping that it doesn't last very long but some friends of mine haven't had power for a week! I have a marble slab and a battery-powered fan turned on them but I'm still afraid they won't be cool enough. It has to be 80+ degrees F, at least, during the day. How can I keep them from getting too hot??

Fans don't work on chinchillas since they don't sweat. Keep the fan on, but get it off them immediately. They aren't supposed to be exposed to drafts, or they could get lung infections.

Freeze some cans or bottles and wrap them really really well, and then again in a towel and lay it inside the cage (maybe in a casserole dish or something) for them to lay on. If their ears are getting very red, then take a dab of water on your finger and gently swipe the ears with it, but don't spray them or soak them.

If they're panting or uncomfortable, you can set them inside your fridge (open of course) for a minute or 2 just to cool them down again. you can also put your slab in the fridge. You probably shouldn't let them out to run around if it's that hot with no ac. You don't want them getting even hotter.

I myself have a chinchilla and when this big heat wave came through the U.S. at first i put a fan at 2 on him so its not enough wind and not to little, but after that i got these things called, chin-chiller. they are marble stone pieces you put in the freezer for a little and they sit on it and sleep.Any way put your chinchilla in the coolest room of you're house.
