Question about how to wash a shirt that I dyed with Procion cold-water dyes?

The last time I dyed something with this dye, the color came out in the wash. This time I pre-soaked a shirt in soda ash, added the salt and saoked the shirt a good hour in the dye bath, added soda ash after soaking the shirt, and I hand washed it in some mild soap. I want to ask if I should avoid my regular laundry detergent again or is the reason the previous shirt lost its color that I didn't use the soda ash?

When you dye fabrics at home the dyes do not always "set" well, so I would continue to wash the shirt carefully by hand using something like Zero Cold Water Wash.
