Should I use propane as the refrigerant in my a/c system?

Due to it's low boiling point of -44°F propane makes an excellent refrigerant! It is still used in New Zealand and Australia I believe for large commercial chillers. It may still be in use in other places as well.
The main reason it is not used in automotive applications is the flammability of it and the expansion factor. You see when propane changes state from a liquid to a vapour it expands 277 times. So a little bit of liquid propane makes a LOT of vapour.
So let us picture an accident scene. You are involved in a violent accident that demolishes much of the front end of your vehicle. The A/C system has been damaged and the liquid from that system is escaping. It expands to make a very large cloud of propane vapour INSTANTLY! There is a source of ignition and boom! It isn't bad enough you have gasoline or diesel fuel around and people probably already injured, now you want to burn them too!
Let's stick with regular refrigerant. OK?

Propane (R290) has the distinction of having zero ozone depleting properties, but it is very hard to deal with its extreme flammability.
Great if we were still in the 1880's....

It depends where you live but probably not. It might work but aside from the fact its illegal in the U.S maybe in other countries to i don't know its always dangerous.
