Can you use a dial timer to turn a tv on and off while away?

Can you use one of those dial timers(like you use for lamps) to turn a tv on and off while on vacation?Is it safe?

    it is safe.

    but will it work? probably not if you are using a modern remote control TV set. once the power is removed, it will power back up in stand-by mode aka off. you might have better results using a radio instead.

    It's safe, but it will work only if the TV has a mechanical power switch,

    so you'd have to use a rather old TV.

    If you hoped to have the light from the TV act as

    an indication that someone might be home...

    There is actually a product (or two) which does that!

    Google "tv light simulator".

    Yes, if your TV has a mode which can power the set on when AC power is connected.

    Some modern TVs have a built in timer though.

    Yes you can and it is recommended to keep burglars out. It is one hundred percent safe.
