Muslims: serious question?
What is the significance of women wearing black while men wear white? Does it specify these colors in the Qur'an?
Also, (and I'm not sure if many of you will know this) why in countries like Saudi Arabia is it required for a woman to wear the burka in public, but the men are not required to wear the religious clothes?
Please be polite, non-muslims, if you don't have an answer don't say something stupid like 'because women are treated like sh*t/not respected etc. I don't care about your opinions, I'm looking for REAL answers by those who actually know.
And before anyone assumes, no I'm not Christian. no I'm not atheist.
I've been Wiccan for 17 years.
and the abaya is required in Saudi Arabia...I didn't mean the full burka. But the abaya is required, but not the 'dress' the men wear (I apologize, I don't know the name of it).

Hijab is an obligation on all Muslim men and women. Men wear black also and what Saudi imposes as a law is not Islam. Burqa is not required in Saudi. Observing Hijab does not mean you have to wear special ''religious clothing'' as long as the rules are followed. There is no significance in regards to black and white.
Thank you for asking it makes a nice change rather than to be told.
See comes in black for men...

white for women...

EDIT
That is correct abaya not Burqa big difference. There is no requirement in Islam to cover your face it is a choice. Governments who implement a woman cover her face are not following Islam.

I am a born Muslim, over 60 and have lived in Saudi Arabia for 12 years.
So I am entitled to answer you question.
Color is no requirement. Women can wear any color as long as it is not
attractive, like red or pink , in public. The need to dress modestly and
are not allowed to wear tight dresses. They can leave their hands, faces
and feet open.
Since men have to work hard, in rough weather conditions, they are not
required to cover their bodies. Islam is a universal religion and no dress
is barred unless it is dress of a particular nation. Muslims wear pant
shirt and coats. Islam is fairly liberal. I never felt any difficulty with regard
to dress in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.
I suggest you look into life of middle class Muslims, in any Muslim country
of your Choice. Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia or Pakistan. In fact women
rule and the men earn so that their wives can spend!

It is a mis-interpitation of the Qur'an. The Qur'an says to "dress moderately and cover yourselves." It says nothing about women being completely covered in public. That came years after the death of the prophet. In fact the Qur'an say "women have the same rights as men."
The muslim faith has moved far away from what the Qur'an says.
