Oil Change on 2005 911S?

How often is an oil change needed/required on a 2005 Porsche 911S. The dealers say one thing and literature says others. With synthetic oil and difficult access oil changes are expensive and I just want to be sure I'm changing enough, but not too much.

My 2005 Porsche 911 Turbo S owner's handbook says "... every 15,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first." That's using the Mobil 1 full synthetic oil Porsche recommends. My Dealer says there's a Tech Bulletin that changes that to every 15,000 miles or two years (many Porsches are driven only 6,000 to 8,000 miles a year)

I go with the one year, which in my case corresponds to about 6,000 miles. Yeah, an oil change costs me $295 at the Dealership, but I only do it once a year. Use the oil that your car's maker recommends!

I believe every 10,000 miles according to the owners manual.

However, I recommend changing it more often. Every 5000-6000 miles.

Access is very easy. The same as other cars. The engine being in the back makes no difference.

The oil changes are expensive because the typical car takes 3 - 4 quarts of oil lasting 3000-5000 miles.

Porsche engines take 9 - 10 quarts of oil, which is why they say you can wait every 10,000 miles to change it.

With 9-10 quarts, you pay double the amount of an oil change than a normal car, but last twice as long.

I would not go beyond 6-7k miles per year, even with the mfr's recommended synthetic Mobil product.

I changed the oil in my '09 911 Carrera S annually. And I averaged about 3K miles per year.

I plan to keep the same regimen in my 2012 911 Carrera S. Relatively speaking, it's "cheap" insurance.

    keeping this in mind

1 cars today are built 100 times better than even 10 yrs ago

2 oil is 100 times better than even 10 yrs ago

so with 45 years of car ownership

1 regular oil is good for 5K

2 synthetic is good for 7500 min,,

assme you keep it full...people dont ck it often enough,,
