Why are there so many professed Christians that don't understand the bible?

Aren't you supposed to understand the bible and the trinity more than anybody since your LIFE depends on it?

John 17:3 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

Matthew 13:11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them."

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

As far I I know only Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses make the claim to understand the bible. Are there any others?

(Please don't say it's a "mystery" because even that was revealed to the 1st century Christians and they understood it too.

Ephesians 3:3-5 God himself revealed his mysterious plan to me. 4 As you read what I have written, you will understand my insight into this plan regarding Christ. 5 God did not reveal it to previous generations, but now by his Spirit he has revealed it to his holy apostles and prophets.)

If you don't have a valid answer please don't waste my time with nonsense.

There's a difference between reading the Bible, and understanding the Bible. Many people have read the Bible, but they pick and choose which verses they want to follow and leave the rest alone. A true Christian is one who understands the entire Bible and follows it completely.

Not sure why you made the statement that as far as you know only Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses make the claim to understand the bible...reason being...they all make that claim!

Anyone can make any claim they feel like. You know what they say: "Opinions are like noses, everybody has one"....

Then one more thing...are they out preaching the Good News? Mt. 24:14, Mt. 28:19, 20

What is the Good News? What is God's Kingdom? Is this all there is to life?

So many questions for those sincere ones that truly want to know.

It is the heavenly Kingdom for which Jesus taught all his followers to pray. Soon it will become the one government over all the earth and will solve mankind's pressing problems. The Bible does not give a date for these events, but it provides evidence to show that we are living in “the last days” of this troubled world.—2 Timothy 3:1-5; Daniel 2:44; Matthew 6:9, 10; 24:3-8, 36.

Your arguments are flawed. [1] The Bible does now not promote sexism. [2] It does no longer promorte genocide. [3] Does now not promote slavery. [4] Does now not promote revenge and killing of toddlers. Every of these passages can be interpreted in a different way than you've. It is called "hanging a spin on" it. You've gotten most effective shown that the Bible can be twisted to say almost anything you wish to have to promote. Nothing new at all with that (spinning). Journalists (reporters) do it always.

Good question. I think there are not enough anointed teachers in churches, but personally, I went to a five year Bible study that was very good and taught me all the basics about the word of God. Then after the five years was up the Holy Spirit guided me in learning much more, and then I also went to Bible studies with an anointed gifted teacher in my church. It takes much study to learn what the Bible is all about. The Full Gospel churches are much more likely to have gifted anointed teachers so I always recommend that type of church. There are several denominations among the Full Gospel or charismatic type churches. In fact, any main line church could turn into a charismatic church simply by the pastor becoming a spirit-filled person (baptized in the Holy Ghost). It's not all that simple though since this causes churches to split too but that is what causes Baptist churches or Methodist, etc. to become charismatic. The gifts of the spirit are important.

You can take years studying the Bible by yourself and not understand the whole thing.

Yet the basic premise can be understood by a 6-year old child.

This is the great thing of Christ, which God has given us. Belief is all that is required.

For many, mere belief is not completely satisfying, but it is adequate if not exhaustive.

In other words, for example, it is certainly helpful for some people to know all the ins and outs of the internal combustion engine, the proper fuel pressure and air/fuel ratio, the spark plug gap, the weight of the gear oil in the differential, etc. But all you need to know to start the car is how to turn the KEY.

Belief in Jesus Christ's atoning sacrifice is the KEY you need. The rest is great and fulfilling, but not a requirement of salvation, which is why there are only a limited number of Christians who really want to tinker under the hood, so to speak. The rest are happy and joyful it works.

"Why are there so many professed Christians that don't understand the bible?"

There are some like the Jehovah Witness sect that make absolutely no effort to understand the Scriptures but instead use the Scriptures to prove their preconceived man-made beliefs and ignore any biblical teaching to the contrary. In other words they are intentionally ignorant of what the Bible teaches because it assaults their prejudice. Of course even though they claim to be Christian to lure in converts they are really a neo-Arian sect instead and such believers have already been condemed for all eternity by the Church Council of Nicaea by the authority given to them by Jesus Himself.

"Aren't you supposed to understand the bible and the trinity more than anybody since your LIFE depends on it?"

The Catholic Church by its apostolic witness and its authority from Christ is the source of all truth for Christians. The Bible says of the Church that it is the "pillar and foundation of truth" and not just the Bible which the New Testament is written by the Church and about the Church and the entire Christian Canon comes from the authority of the Church.

    The halfway Church

-wants a God of love but not a God of _udgement

-wants Jesus as savior but not Jesus as Lord

-wants the Holy Spirit as comforter but not as convictor of sin.

To some it is a club, they were baptized as an infant likened to a hand stamp to get back into a dance, they think that will be their ticket into heaven. NOT! It is not a ticket to sin.

Laying aside the issues that you raise about your brothers and sisters in Christ you may also want to consider this scripture as well.

    1 Cor 13

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

    8 Love never fails.

In other words, you'll gain audience and understanding with humility and kindness.

    God bless you friend.

The simpleness of the matter is we are in the end times and sound doctrine is not looked for. Many of those who profess to be Christians are evangelized by people who do not believe the Bible to be the word of God. Many that do learn some of the Scriptures make the same mistake as the Mormons and JWs for they take a few verses and learn them and as usual they take them out of context this seems to be a huge thing for people to learn verses and memorize them. And many who call themselves Christian are just people who are following pastors who are in it to make money, and for people to make money off of the Gospel it is not good for the people they are strealing from to know the Scriptures.

As to the Mormons I have not had a lot of contact with them but have read the book of Mormon and it is racist and not supported by archealogical evidence and the few I have talked to do not understand the Bible but do know some verses.

As to the JWs I have had many encounters with them and they know verses that they point to and take out of context. and they understand only what the watchtower society tells them. They have a book in fact that is titled 'What the Bible Really Teaches' and it takes verses out of context from their fake copy of the Bible since they had to change it to fit their doctrines and say the bible teaches doctrines that do not match with anything in the Bible or their fake translation. And yes I have a copy of their fake translation and the book of which I speak. I also have 22 English translations of the Bible which all disagree with JW so I will trust the translations of Greek and Hebrew scholars rather than watchtower.

The others who do read and learn the Bible are non-denominational Bible Teaching churches, for the pastors of those churches teach the Bible book by book and line upon line and precept upon precept as the Bible teaches. Also some Baptist and AoG churches do teach the bible and I say some for they are not all the same, they are independant congregations and may be members of associations but not controlled by that association.
