Car Insurance Problem?

Can an insurance company for another driver have your vehicle sent in for am estimate prior to determining if they want to accept liability?

More specifically, can they tell you they will accept 80% fault and tell you they will set up the estimate, then after they get the ammount, say they have not decided to accept fault and tell you they need the police report and give you the run around for 2 weeks?

Yes, this can happen. Liability is determined by many factors, driver statements, witness statements, police reports, appraisals of both vehicles, scene photos, etc... and as more and more of these things become available the initial liability determination may be changed.

For example, if one driver states there was a hit to the other car's left rear quarter but the appraisal shows no hit or damage, that could call into question their version of events.

I recommend working with your insurance company directly to handle the claim. They can then go after the other party/insurance company for reimbursement of damages. This process is called subrogation. Good luck!

You shouldn't have to be worrying about this. Your Insurance company should be handling this run-around.
