Your daughter has an imaginary friend, what do you do?

Now, whatever you did (whether it was to humor her or try to "cure" her) she's now nearly 18 and has no interest in going to school or getting a job as her friend is now her boyfriend and has promised to supply everything she needs. And, she has, over the internet, or however, found a few million others that believe exactly the same thing and her faith in her boyfriend is absolute. Now what do you do?

Update:

Well, it looks like the religious fanatics are afraid to give an honest answer. I wonder why that is?

Update 2:

@Sheets So, you'd allow her her delusion? Well, then, now you're getting old and can no longer support her, now what do you do?

Update 3:

P.S. I am really interested about how a "devout whatever" would handle this, except for the millions of others, this sort of thing HAS happened before.

Update 4:

@MishMash the promise is just slightly different her "friend" promises to provide in this life yours promises to provide in the "next" (and bases, actually, on the possibly false premise that there is a next).

Update 5:

That simply makes it easier for others to see that it is false, nothing more, nothing less.

    Find a good psychiatrist.

  • I'm to figure out how this represents someone believing in God. I've had my ups and downs and where I am right now I'm still not sure, but it would be quite foolish of me (and anyone else) to give up everything and expect God to take care of it all. That's probably why I have never seen anybody quit school and quit work and sit around waiting for money and food to come falling from the sky.

I'm trying to see your point, but I just can't.

Id tell her that I didn't believe either now I do. Id tell her to have an open mind and don't be put in a small little box like a lot of atheists.

Hope she grows out of it... Some people don't accept reality until late in life.

Nice try atheist, but apparently you are obsessed with someone you say is imaginary so much you post a fake question on here about him.

    So she's a christian, right?

Only thing that can help that is to hope she starts to think for herself someday.
