Do you think your name can effect your job opportunity?

Today there are so many "unique" names, I guess parents want their kids to be special but I think most times these names may keep their children from landing an interview or have a missed opportunity. With names becoming more and more hard to pronounce or impossible to spell, do parents think about this before they saddle their kids with this unique moniker for life? Case in point, I met a child who's name is As'sho'le. Yes, only without the apostrophe because YA would delete it. She pronounces it Ash-shole-lay. Can you say very moronic to name your child this?? My question is what do you think? Will names hold people back? I can say as a hiring manager, I would have a difficult time calling this person back for an interview. Not to say I won't but to say I would wait for other prospects first. What say you?

I definitely agree with you. It will affect them either in a positive or negative way. I think celebrities are notorious for this. They give these children these weird names and regular people try to follow suit. Little do they understand, these children for the celebrities never have to work if they so choose, but the rest of us do.

I am in education and some of my friends and I had this conversation the other day. My first year of teaching, I had a student named Orange'. To me, it is pronounced like the fruit we eat. But, the student corrected me and said it was French and pronounced O-raun-jay! Really? My friend said she had a student whose name was spelled L-shea. It is pronounced La-dash-iah. How is anyone ever going to take these individuals seriously, let alone hire them for a job? God help us all! Parents need to think twice nowadays and stop being so selfish! Good question, by the way.

They're come crazy names out there. I had a friend named sally butts, & her brothers name was harry. There's dill pickles (off the rugrats movie). I know when I was naming my son, I not only thought of the name, but the initials. He ended up with ACS, I had to make sure it didn't have 2 s's in there.
