How long will it take to receive the Green Card?

I am a US green card holder and have been for the past 5 years. Soon I am going for fingerprinting and am in the process of receiving my US passport. I have applied for my son who is 27 years old and lives back home.

Now my question is, how long after I receive my passport, will my son receive his green card and is able to come to the US?

The passport has nothing to do with it. As soon as you have become a US citizen, you notify the USCIS of it by sending a copy of your Certificate of Naturalization with it. Thereafter your petition will be upgraded from F2B (unmarried child over 21 of Green Card holder) to F1 (unmarried child of US citizen).

F2B waiting time is now 8 years and 3 months, and F1 waiting time is 7 years and 1 months (except, Mexico and Philippines where it's much longer). So you save about 1 year and 2 months due to becoming a US citizen.

if you sponsored an unmarried son over 21 years old as a citizen it takes about 7 years, a married son about 10 years.

Unless back home is Mexico or the Philippines, then it will take much longer.

If you sponsored him while you had a greencard you only can sponsor a married son. You will have to inform USCIS of your change in status if you are naturalizing.

current processing dates are monthly published in the visa bulletin:

You can NOT have a US passport unless you are a citizen.so unless you are one suggest you stop NOW, this can and will impact you being able to remain in the US.

Where is you son coming from??? I can take several [think 5 + years] before HE can come over but it can be much more depending on the country he is coming from.
