Good anime to start with?

All of my friends are simply OBSESSED with anime. The only anime I've really watched is, well... none. What's a good one to start with so I don't feel as left out? My friends' favorites are Deathnote and Soul Eater.

Update:

I need one I can easily find and watch online.

Anime is an obsession. Don't start with Naruto, Bleach or Inuyasha far too many episodes for a beginner you might become overwhelmed.

The first anime that got me started was "Love Hina" I marathoned all the episodes in one night it was so good. You can watch it here:

    http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/love-hina-episode-1...

"History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi" Is another one of my all time Favorites its longer than "love Hina" and it is also an action anime. You can watch it here:

    http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/kenichi-mightiest-d...

"Clannad" and "Clannad After Story" is the best anime love story of all time. Part two (Clanned After Story) will defiantly make you cry. Watch it here:

    http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/clannad-episode-1-e...

"Durarara!!" is the last one that I will share with you. This anime is a very interesting mix of Action, Fantasy, and slice of life. Its very good. Linked here:

I implore you to watch Anime only in Japanese with English subs, its the best way to get the full experience, Its sad but American Voice actors are for the most part terrible and the translations are sometimes half-assed. There are notable exceptions to this (Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu hakusho which is another set also worth watching). If you have any questions shoot me a message, I'm always willing to help someone get into Anime.

The people telling you to start off with One Piece, Bleach, Naruto or Inuyasha are crazy I found that unless you've already been into Anime a little already these shows will just overwhelm you. I started Bleach and Naruto when there were only like 50 episodes apiece and was able to follow the series for the last 10 years. These four shows currently have a combined total of 1611 episodes and that is without the Ova's and movies added in. These shows are def worth watching One Piece is my all time Favorite, but lets just get your feet wet first.

To everyone else, think did you grow up with these anime and watch them as they came out, I think that for the Majority of you the answer is yes. Its easier to watch them that way, its a different story to pull up a new anime and look at the episode list and find 600 episodes waiting to be watched. I only started watching One Piece 2 years ago, and it took me a year to decide if I wanted to even take it on.

Well, what do you prefer? Action, romance, mystery, science fiction, or perhaps just comedy? There are tons of anime out there. For action and great story mixed with comedy I suggest Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. If you are more sentimental then you should go watch Ano Hana or Clannad. Both are very good and plays your heart like an instrument. Romance would definitely be Romeo x Juliet, no fight there. Science Fiction would be Steins;Gate. A great anime that makes you use your brain, if not at all. Mystery for me I would suggest Death Note. Lastly for comedy you should watch...hmm Angel Beats made me laugh a lot, but it's also a heartbreaking story too. These are just my suggestions and I hope you have a great time watching anime that is if you get into it. Personally I like because it's a nice change of pace from the ordinary and I love stories(who doesn't?) so hopefully you will find something that will appeal to you!

The first anime I watched was Pokemon, but the one that started it all for me is D.Gray-Man. When I was 8, my little brother went to hospital because of some sort of lung infection. One night I came back from visiting him late at night and I went to my parents room while my mum was showering. Naturally I was bored, so I decided to pick up the remote control and go to kids center channel (which is non-existent now). First thing I notice was 'no, this is definitely not kids center' and its the time where they show late night animes. I stumbled upon a particularly gruesome scene where Allen was being tortured by a member of the Noah Clan. While it was pretty scary, I found the art and language fascinating (I was 8 after all). So. I went to youtube. and Guess what? I found so many episodes of D.Gray-Man. Thus started me on the glorious journey of Anime and Manga. Along the way, I became a Narutard (because it was Naruto as well that made another big impact on me), and somewhat of a *coughcough* Yaoi fangirl... but can you blame me xD?

Code Geass is the first one I watched, but if so watch the two seasons before you watch the Alice In Wonderland one subbed recently so you know the characters and such. It's really funny since the original is quite serious.

Also none of my friends know or like anime.

    Sorry if this doesn't help!

My favorites are One Piece, Bleach, and Fullmetal Alchemist. Out of the three, One Piece (about a boy pirate) is definitely the most light hearted, although it's still pretty dark at times. It's a good one. Bleach (a boy soul reaper) takes place in modern day while Fullmetal Alchemist (two boy state alchemists) is in the past (I don't remember exactly. 30's or 40's something like that). It really just depends on your taste.

Death note and soul eater are really good ones, you can either start with one of thoughs or maybe black butler, or whatever else you want I started with Black Butler then Soul eater than Death note but that's just me it doesn't really matter what you start with its really up to you, If i were you I'd ask you're friends which is their favorite and start with that.

    -For horror:

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, Elfen Lied, or Death Note

    -For comedy:

Great Teacher Onizuka, Full Metal Panic, Ouran High School Host Club, School Rumble

    -For slice of life:

    Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh

    -For Adventure:

    Inuyasha, Kaleido Star

    -For drama:

    NANA, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien

    -For Magic:

Tokyo Mew Mew, Shugo Chara, Full Moon o Sagashite

    -For Mystery:

Hell Girl (also a horror), Umineko no Naku Koro ni (also a horror)

    My top three:

-Bleach. Love the story and the characters. It's pretty much about Ichigo, a regural teenage boy, who has special powers where he can see ghosts. Than one day, Rukia came into his life to save him and his family from a Hollow. Rukia gets hit and she's not able to fight, so she asks Ichigo if he wants to save his family which he does, so he ends up taking Rukia's powers leaving her helpless. After he defeats the hollow he has to take the place as a Soul Reaper and do Rukia's job while she's getting her powers back. Here you go: http://www.hulu.com/watch/37417

-Soul Eater. Well, your friends watched it so you can ask them what it's about but I love it! ^.^

    Here you go: http://www.hulu.com/watch/37417

-Inuyasha. It's a love story with action. It's about a half demon who destroyed his village, and was put under a seal. Inuyasha saw the love of his life die right in front of his eyes. THOUSAND YEARS LATER... Kagome, a regural school girl, goes out and falls into a hole and than turns out a thousand years back in a village. She looks like the girl named Kikiyo. She finds Inuyasha sealed to a tree and gets him off. Than he saves her from a monster but tries to kill her so she can get the crystal to become a full fledge demon. Well a bird happens to get it, and Kagome has to shoot the bird to get the crystal. She ends up braking it into pieces. That leaves Kagome and Inyasha working together to get all the pieces together. (Sorry if it's a horrible description) Here you go: http://www.hulu.com/watch/37417

Hope I helped and you enjoy. c:

I loved all three and they are my favorite. ^.^
